While you may be vigilant about monitoring your childs use and restricting access to inappropriate content, you may not be aware that Internet bullying, also known as cyberbullying, can occur through simple emails, instant messages, or posts and comments created by others. Like other forms of bullying, serious consequences like depression and suicidal thoughts and behavior have been linked to cyberbullying, according to Dr. Jeff Hutchinson, an adolescent medicine specialist in Washington, D.C. Fortunately, your awareness and vigilance can keep your child safe from cyberbullying. How Cyberbullying Affects Children Victims of cyberbullying can experience symptoms of depression including sadness, loneliness, insecurity, poor self-esteem, academic decline, feelings of not belonging, and suicidal thoughts and behavior. Nancy Willard, author of Cyberbullying and Cyberthreats: Responding to the Challenge of Online Social Aggression, Threats, and Distress, writes that the effects of cyberbullying may be more damaging than in-school bullying because cyberbullied children do not have the opportunity to escape the harassment. Due to the anonymous nature of some Internet harassment, victims may not be able to identify their harasser and feel that everyone is against them. On the flip side, research has shown that perpetrators of childhood cyberbullying are likely to be facing concurrent behavioral and psychosocial challenges, meaning that youth internet harassment might be a marker for other issues.?? How Common Is Cyberbullying? Dr. Michele Ybarra and colleagues published a study on Internet harassment among children in 2007 that found that approximately 9% of children in their study who used the Internet were victims of some form of Internet harassment.?? In their study, the researchers found that only half of the victims knew their harasser and that boys and girls were equally involved. Approximately 25% of children who were cyberbullied were also bullied in a different setting. Interestingly, they found that the odds of being harassed online increased significantly for those who also harassed others. Types of Cyberbullying According to experts, there are two main types of cyberbullying: direct and by proxy. Direct Cyberbully Attacks Direct Internet attacks occur when a bully shows aggression toward another person directly either through email, instant messaging, chat rooms, or social posts. This can range from insulting comments to threats of physical violence. Cyberbullying by Proxy Cyberbullying by proxy, on the other hand, occurs when a person uses another persons email address or username or creates an imposter account to harass a victim. The bully may contact everyone in their address book to spread lies, hateful messages, or reveal contact or personal information about the victim. In some cases, websites dedicated to harassing and bashing a person have been created. In the case of cyberbullying by proxy, the victim may not be able to identify who the harasser is. Types of Internet Abuse Used to Cyberbully What Parents Can Do   While the effects of cyberbullying can leave parents feeling helpless, there are things you can do to prepare and protect your child from experiencing or perpetrating it. Talk to Your Kids First and foremost, talk to your children about appropriate Internet behavior, your family rules for Internet use, and discuss consequences for misuse. Enforce consequences when the rules are broken by taking away devices or turning off internet access when necessary. Monitor Web Access Monitor your childs Internet use and time spent on devices. Keeping the computer in a common area may decrease the temptation to engage in inappropriate activity. Dr. Parry Aftab, attorney and childrens advocate for safe Internet use, suggests searching for your childs name on the Internet to make sure negative or false information has not been posted, or that your child is not linked to harassing content. Parental Controls for the Internet Contact Websites If bullying behavior, harassment, or misuse is identified, notify the website or applications administration immediately to see if they can help launch an investigation into the incident. Contact the police if your child is being contacted or harassed by an adult, if any threats are made against your child, or if efforts to stop the harassment have failed. Notifying your childs school about cyberbullying may also be effective when the bully can be identified. Watch for Signs of Depression If you notice symptoms of depression in your child, consult with their pediatrician. Their doctor can determine whether your child has clinical depression and recommend the appropriate treatment. How to Help Your Depressed Teen

Due to the adverse effects of MVO, many, who are aware and appear to care, have come up with various possible solutions to the problems MVO brings, some of which have been put into play. They watch and listen as people brag about having the latest trends and as whole new wardrobes are bought for the new year of school or a new outfit that is ‘definitely needed for an upcoming party’. These values are practically drilled into their psyches constantly as everywhere they go, everywhere they look various forms of advertisement work to persuade them to go shopping, causing social modelling (Kasser, T., Ryan, R. Chemistry Review: Each review committee has an chemistry review department for reviewing the chemistry of the drug and the agenda of this chemistry department is to address issues related to drug identity, manufacturing control, and analysis. The reviewing committee ensures that the investigational new drug is adequately reproducible and stable. If the drug is neither adequately reproducible nor stable then the chances of approval for IND are less because they are not sure about the drugs action in the body, and don’t know what it does. So the major purpose of chemistry review is i. To ensure that the compound is adequately reproducible ii. To ensure that the compound is adequately stable In addition to this the sponsor should discuss any manufacturing and chemistry differences between the drug product proposed for the clinical use and drug product used in animal toxicology studies. However these differences might affect the safety profile of the drug product and need to be stated if there are no differences. V. Pharmacology or Toxicology Review: This committee is a group of pharmacologists and toxicologists who evaluate the results of animal testing made during the clinical trial and compare it with the potential effects in humans. That is to ensure safety of the humans for the new drug. i. Pharmacology and Drug Distribution (21 CFR 312. 23(a)(8)(I)): This is nothing but absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of the drug in the animals. These results should be obtained by conducting them in animals, so it should be recorded with an example. Safety Review: After submission of the IND to the CDER then the committee takes about good 30 days to conduct review in every factor to achieve safety and efficacy and to avoid potential harm to the human. The review is an ongoing process however CDER notifies the sponsor immediately if there are any potential high risks associated with the drug upon usage in humans. If a notification is sent to sponsor then it is clear that the application is put on hold and the sponsor should conduct enough studies to clear the hold. This hold will be removed and allows the sponsor for further studies only when changes made to the clinical hold achieve the safety and efficacy and does not case potential risks. If the sponsor is not notified with any information from CDER from the day of IND submission to the 30 th day then on the 31st- day further study can be proceeded as submitted. VII. Clinical Hold Decision: The Clinical hold is issued in during the thirty day review period and this is due to the following factors 1. The drug causes potential harm to the humans 2. If drug is not having enough stability 3. The IND does not contain sufficient information required under 312. 23 to assess the risks to subjects of the proposed studies 4. The plan or protocol for the investigation is clearly deficient in design to meet its stated objectives. And CDER can hold the studies during the initial phases of the studies that is when filed for IND if observes potential risks on the data submitted initially. The Clinical hold will be removed if the sponsor addresses the issue based on the hold before the order is removed. The United States currently has a very poor immigration policy that is in desperate need of a change. There are many problems with how the United States is currently protecting its borders. One major problem is a very poor surveillance system along its boundary line, especially along the southern border. A critical network of cameras and sensors installed for the U.S. Border Patrol along the Mexican and Canadian borders has been hobbled for years by defective equipment that was poorly installed (â€Å"GSA sees problems in border monitors† par. 1). This is a huge problem which United States officials call crucial to defending the country against terrorist infiltrators, which are often illegal aliens (â€Å"GSA sees problems in border monitors† par. 2). As part of a sweeping intelligence bill passed in December (2005), Congress suggested to nearly double the size of the Border Patrol by adding 10,000 agents over five years. President George Bush’s administration announced a plan to reform current immigration and border policies on August 10, 2007. His administration made known their plan to have a series of reforms to address current immigration and border problems, such as the abundance of illegal aliens in the United States. One of President Bush’s plans in the announcement was to add 370 miles of fencing to the currently 86 miles along the borders of the United States (â€Å"Comprehensive Immigration Reform† par 3). This is simply not enough fencing to adequately protect the American citizens. In fact, adding 370 miles of fence will still leave almost 1500 miles of the United States-Mexican border unfenced, and thousands more unfenced along the United States-Canadian border. This nation cannot take the risk of having so much of the northern border unprotected by the fence. There needs to be sufficient fencing around all borders of the United States, no matter which country the border is shared with. Another one of President Bush’s border control plans announced in August 2007 was to increase the number of border agents to 18,500 by the end of 2008 (â€Å"Comprehensive Immigration Reform† par 3. The idea of adding more border agents seems good at first, but in reality is not. Adding almost 6,000 more border agents to the current ones in about one year’s time will only give the United States 6,000 more ways to waste money. It takes a great deal of time to train border agents. Border agents undergo a rigorous application and hiring process that includes drug screenings, fitness tests, and on-the-job instruction. Rushing to interview, hire, train, and employ 6,000 agents in a year will only make things more complicated because the new border agents will not fully understand the tasks and duties of their job. If the United States had a better immigration policy that included a plan for safe and protected borders, thousands of Americans might still be alive today. The national borders are less secure than ever. If the United States does attempt to interview, hire, train, and employ 6,000 border control agents in that time as President Bush wants, they can expect to be revisiting the same border problems many years down the line because the empl oyees will not be adequately trained or have enough field experience to understand how to fully protect the borders. Barack Obama knows that rushing to get border control situation fixed is not the best way to do things. Fixing major problems like border protection takes time. He knows that using careful planning and strategic ideas in regards to the border will give the citizens of the United States what they want and need: stronger national security. In fact, increasing enforcement along the border is just one of Barack Obama’s many ways of improving national security. Another way Barack Obama is going to improve national security is by adding additional infrastructure along the borders of the United States. Under his plan, technology will be one of the primary defenses against illegal aliens.
